The New Zealand labour movement used to have its own newspaper. A group of us thought that now might be a good time for it to be digitally reborn: The Standard v2.0 - now in a new format The Standard v3.0

"That was why I put all those names into moderation - overuse and largely out of context."

See my post above. Don't you think its important that people who obviously don't know, should be warned about the history of totalitarianism? I do. That's why I mention it.

[lprent: and that is why it went through. But there is a strong correlation between comments mentioning the names of various dictators and someone I'd define as a troll. Specifically the pop-in and "crap in the porch" type of graffiti troll. Doesn't add to debate out of context]

"Your attempt to exploit the abomination of the gulags in order to cast yourself into a faux-matyrdom…. is pitiful."

Yawn....

Why can't you just do as your good buddy Appleboy implores you?? What I'm trying to do is make the ignorant little twit aware of the left's history of stifling free speech so that he might think twice in future before he advocates shutting people he doesn't like out of the debate.

I'm reminding him of the murdering anti-freedom of expression dictators he is traditionally aligned with, and how, unless he wants to constantly remind other readers of this history, he should strive not to emulate those tyrants.

Of course, if he was taught history at school, he'd already know that. If he was taught something other than socialism, he'd also know what he sounds like to people who have wider political views and greater experience of life than himself.

RB,

You cannot tell difference between social democracy and totalitarianism, because from the remote perspective of your own self-imposed intellectual gulag... they look like the same thing.

BTW. As I may have mentioned to you some years ago, I'm likely one of the few New Zealanders to have actually stood on that desolate "Highway of Bones", running north from Kolyma. I went there as a personal pilgrimage in 2001.

Your attempt to exploit the abomination of the gulags in order to cast yourself into a faux-matyrdom.... is pitiful.

"Seriously, just ignore all posts from the git."

Given the emptiness of your own comments,I would be immensely pleased if you could abide by that intention. In fact, I dunno why if my posts are so bad, you would need to beg in that manner anyway. Why would it matter to you?

I'll tell you why. You wish to control the debate. Like so many leftists, it irks you uncontrollably that some people express ideas outside of the socialist space time continuum. You want to send those who do express those ideas to the Siberian gulags. Like Joe Stalin. Or maybe you would like to take them out behind the rice paddies and suffocate them with a plastic bag over their head. In the way that Pol Pot's acolytes dealt with dissenters. Or maybe you'd just like, in the age old fashion of totalitarians everywhere, to put them up against the wall like Fidel and Che did. Or put them thru a chipper like your buddy Saddam did. Or maybe just gas them in masse like your good old mate Adolf did. Just look back into the history of totalitarianism. There's so many methods you can choose from.

[lprent: wow - that one would have hit moderation. That was why I put all those names into moderation - overuse and largely out of context. ]

So John Key goes to Gisborne to launch his policy. Unfortunately this gets shoved off the news by Clark, and also by himself, getting his knickers in a twist about some missing briefs.

Still, at least he would have got some nice, uncritical coverage in Gisborne, surely.

Er, no ...

Can I suggest we all just ignore and not even bother responding to posts from betterdeadthanred. With out exception, they are all moronic and it's easy to see that this fruitcake exists only to extol the virtues of keyboard masturbation as a viable alternative to having friends. From here on in we can all live comfortably in the knowledge that we have missed nothing. Seriously, just ignore all posts from the git.

An hour to come up with that useless comeback, Sod? Oh dear...

BTW you're welcome to my wife, mate -- I left her 6-years ago when she got fat and started voting Labour. To give the ex credit, though, she's still a darn sight prettier than ol' Smash-mouth.

"This is something we’d expect from George Bush,"

Or maybe even Barack Obama-

"Well it costs too much money," but you know what? It would cost, about... It -- it -- it would cost about the same as what we would spend... It... Over the course of 10 years it would cost what it would costs us... (nervous laugh) All right. Okay. We're going to... It... It would cost us about the same as it would cost for about -- hold on one second. I can't hear myself. But I'm glad you're fired up, though. I'm glad.
