DPF’s bloody good deal

kim.jpgThere’s plenty of comment about Davey’s/National’s Billboards here and at Blogblog so I’ll not bore you with my analysis of these dreadful things. ‘Cos as you know I’m a man who likes to know what things cost.

And guess what? I’ve done quite a few billboards and if Dave’s getting them for $7000, then he’s getting a deal fo’sure.

From the pictures it looks like he’s doing a 12x3m in Auckland, and two 6x3m boards in Wellington and Tauranga respectively. I priced these using oggi’s brilliant locater tool and got the following:

Auckland 12×3 corner of Carbine Road and South Eastern Highway: $5000 per month with oggi.

Wellington Central City 6×3 – $3500 with oggi (I couldn’t find the exact site but the CBD boards are all very similarly priced)

Tauranga – Hewletts Road 6×3 – $3000 with isite.

Now I’ve used isite and oggi because they are the ones with prices on their sites but in my experience Look are around the same price. Now these add up to $11500 which is a lot more than David’s claim of $7000. When you add between $300-$600 to install these billboards and $500+ to get the skins made up then he’s spending some serious money here.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not begrudging Dave spending his own money (well, the money of Don Brash and assorted National/Act party operators and Kiwiblog rabble) but his numbers don’t add up unless he got a really really good deal and I’ve never been able to get a 40% discount from any billboard company or ad-buyer I’ve ever used.

As an aside it’s probably worth noting the Kill the Bill campaign has a little under $7000 on its donations list.

UPDATE: Kiwiblogblog’s catalogued DPF’s five different stories in the last 24 hours on exactly how much the campaign cost.

  1. Don’t worry. There are moves afoot for the State to seize assets and property if they suspect that they were obtained from the proceeds of criminal activity. without the State needing to prove anything. It’s up to the people they take the property from.

Thus, make a call, and have the billboards seized. By the time the paperwork is completed and the court case heard the election will be over.

Don’t you just love the current government?

  2. Tane 2

David can’t even get his story straight:

    On Kiwiblog:
“The three sites combined cost $7,000 for a month’s rental. There are some production costs on top of that.”
    http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2007/12/some_billboards_to_enjoy.html

    At Radio NZ:
“Mr Farrar says the three billboards cost about $15,000, including one month’s rent.”³
    http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/latest/200712191243/political_billboard_campaign_begins_in_auckland

Looks like you’re right again Bill.

  3. IrishBill 3

Zen – that’s absurd. I’ve seen you comment sensibly elsewhere. Please offer us the same courtesy.

  4. Santi 4

Irish: Who cares how much money did it cost? None of your bloody business, anyway!

Good on DPF for taking a stand on the EFB and carrying it through.

  5. IrishBill 5

Santi, advertising cost are my business. Quite literally. I would suggest also that this blog is our property and we can post what we like. If you don’t like it you should consider whether you really want to visit here.

  6. Tane 6

Who cares how much money did it cost? None of your bloody business, anyway!

The issue isn’t how much DPF or the National Party spent on these billboards, the issue is DPF is either lying or he’s got himself a really good deal. If it’s the former then obviously it is our business. If it’s the latter then it raises even more questions and is worthy of further investigation.

  7. MikeE 7

Ever considered maybe, just maybe, in some strange paralell universe. That the billboard owners are sympathetic to a cause of freedom of speech?

WEird idea I know, that the peasents might disagree with out mighty benelovant overlords, but in a paralell universe maybe.

  8. IrishBill 8

Mike, DPF has indicated to National Radio that he spent $15k. That tallies with my figures. Perhaps you need to consider why he gave the real figure to the media but feed his KB crowd a different line? I could say because he’s scared of getting called on his numbers by the media but has no similar respect for his rabble. But that would be surmise and I deal in facts.

  9. MikeE 9

And in the scheme of things, who the hell cares what they cost, after all its their own money.

  10. IrishBill 10

Mike, I don’t care about him spending is own money. What I care about is when he fudges the figures. More to the point why would he lie to his own regulars about a few thousand dollars difference? That seems strange to me.

  11. Simeon 11

Thanks Irishbill for pointing out how little third parties can spend on making there view known.

  12. dancer 12

i hestitate to dip my toe in the seething waters – but doesn’t it also confirm the arguement that you have to have money in the first place to “sell the message” en masse like this? those of us with everyday lives are not going to have our free speech affected as this speech aint free. if i had a spare $15k it isn’t what i’d be spending it on for sure!

  13. Phil 13

My God Tane, do you want to go back and have a look at what you’ve quoted there?

It doesn’t take a genius to see that one quote is related to rent alone, the other to rent plus production and misc costs.

  14. gobsmacked 14

    What dancer said.

  15. Tane 15

There’s no way it costs $8000 to produce and install three billboards. As Bill points out in his post it’s between $300-$600 to install a billboard and about $500 to get the skins made up. That’s $3300 max.

    Add that to $7000 and you’ve got $10000. Where’s the other $5000?

  16. Simeon 16

    dancer,

I am talking about third parties, a lot of third parties are representing thousands of people. $120000 will buy you about 5 full page newspaper ads. For a third party that is very small.

  17. Kimble 17

Remember when you had a go at DPF for how much the KtB organisation had raised in donations? Remember how he came along explained it to you, you ended up looking like a total fucktard and everyone had a good laugh at your expense?

Sure you remember. It was at that time that you shat yourself over two $20 direct deposit donations!

Remember when you had a go at them for not being transparent enough, and DPF pointed out that they were (and still are) the most transparent lobby group in the history of NZ politics.

Even if you do remember it is obvious you haven’t learned.

What happens if DPF comes back and says he misspoke? What would that prove? What are you hoping to achieve? Do you expect him to come on here and say,

“Damn! Foiled again! You got me! I AM all those things you dream I am, I am the shadowy leader of a group of rich white men that secretly control the National party and the world! To think my one mistake was to incorrectly state how much was spent on 3 billboards! My master plan is unravelling, … nooooooooo!”

  18. Phil 18

Now you say it Kimble, DPF does look an awful lot like Dr Evil…

  19. Irish Bill. Hello. I like throwing in a bit of jocularity, but it is usually mixed with a valid point. Which part of my comment was insane? Please explain.

Re DPF – I heard he received a one off donation from the Libertarians of $5K. And on National Radio he did say something about the bill boards costing $15K or 17K

  20. The Double Standard 20

Hey, where’s that famous leftie sense of humour today lads?

Annoyed that people are spending their own money again? I hope you can whip up such a froth of indignation when the Teh Party promoting “information campaigns” begin.

Still, congratulations on a complete loss of perspective. It’s just another nail in your coffins.

  21. IrishBill 21

Thanks Irishbill for pointing out how little third parties can spend on making there view known.

Simeon, $120k is actually quite a large amount of money to spend on a campaign. If an issue is important enough to people and you have a decent smart strategy, good media relations and a good membership then you’re away laughing with that kind of money. And as far as I’m aware salary costs are not covered by that cap. If an organisation came to me and said they had a quarter of a million dollars to spend but could only spend $120k I’d suggest they invest in some good campaigns people and in motivating their membership to action.

In campaigning, Simeon, people are way more important than dollars.

  22. Kimble 22

“In campaigning, Simeon, people are way more important than dollars.”

    Yup, donated time is free.

    captcha: unsuccessful vault

  23. IrishBill 23

Zen, it was the way you deliberately posted off topic you were the first comment so you can’t even claim you were responding to another comment. It was “absurd”, by the way “insane” is a term I prefer to keep back for the likes of kimble.

TDS, I’m glad to see you are so concerned about what we put on our blog. And I’ve still got my sense of humour. How could I laugh at you, otherwise?

  24. Ah – thanks for the clarification. I didn’t realise you wanted to strictly stick to the topic – my comment wasn’t a deliberate attempt to take the thread off topic, it was my instant reaction to reading the post.

To me, several of these recent law changes are all very much related – alone they may appear to be of minor concern. Together, they point to a disturbing trend where our rights are being steadily eroded, and the danger of mis-use of power becoming more evident. I think comments that link these issues to be valid commentary.

However, I’ll take your comment in good grace. Whilst I am often irreverent, I don’t go out of my way to be discourteous.

  25. Tane 25

Ha, Francesca Mold just said $18,000 on One News. David’s all over the place with his figures today. You’d think if FSC was really a struggling little grassroots activist group they’d be obsessing over every dollar rather than suddenly remembering $11,000 of spending between interviews.

  26. Kimble 26

So thats his game! If he can prove that DPF wasnt correct in his statement of how much was spent then the only reason could be because they are completely funded by the National Party!

Its so obvious and isnt the sort of thing only a rabid a conspiracy theorist would come up with. Not at all.

  27. Mike Porton 27

Kimble – you’re a fuckin’ idiot. The point of this post is DPF told you and the rest of his toadie fools that the things cost $7K. They didn’t, but he felt he could lie to you and you’d be dumb enough to defend him anyway. Guess what? You are.

  28. Pascal's bookie 28

Kimble, what are talking about? Did you post on the wrong thread?

If not, whose game are you talking about? I can’t see anyone on this thread making anything like the argument you are mocking. Considering that you like to accuse others of attacking straw-men, that’s notable.

It also makes your final paragraph amusing I suppose.

But honestly, could you please try to use quotes or at least names more often. And fill out your arguments with a few more premisses so that us thickies can see how you arrived at your often astounding conclusions. Following this advice should make you seem less demented, but it’s entirely up to you of course.

PS. On preview: What Mike Porton said, pretty much as always.

  29. One very credible (IMHO) possibility is that the billboard and/or production company are offering this at a massive discount. Think about it – this bill has just hurt them seriously, as there is now less money around for parties and private interests to spend on billboard election advertising, which has in recent years been one of the major areas of spending.

  30. Mike Porton 30

Nah George, they get fuck all political business. It wouldn’t make a blip. I’d say from what Bill’s said the $15-$18K figure that’s coming out now is probably about right.

The real question is why the fuck would DPF bother lying about a few grand? Especially to his poodles? In fact it seemed so pointless a lie I thought it must’ve just been a typo until I noticed Davey had given the NZPA the`same number.

I also argee with Tane – if you’re struggling away on donations then you know what everything costs down to the last cent especially your big play. I reckon DPF has got someone bankrolling this on the sly. Astroturfing, anyone?

  31. The Prophet 31

D Brash donated $250.00 to ktb. Stop the presses.

Boys and Girls of the VDS you’re all sounding a little shrill today. Maybe a wee break is in order. Just chill out for a few days, have a nice Christan festival and come back next year refreshed and ready to do battle again. Allah know you’re gonna need the break.

When Mike Porton calls other people dumb you just know people are getting a little overwrought.

By the way Mike – I thought you were going to meet me down at Liks for a chat and a beer the other night. What happened? Have you any idea how uncomfortable a person like me feels in a strip club? I’m a little disappointed in you, I don’t think you were really asking me out on a date, were you?

I’m also hearing round the traps that this billboard campaign is just the beginning, and not a very big beginning at that, in comparison of what is to come.

Think Billboards, lots of Billboards, literally thousands of Billboards, everyone breaking the EFL, everyone connected to a different concerned citizen, everyone taken to its full extent in the Law courts.

Gives me shivers it does, shivers.

    Roll on 2008.

  32. Pacman 32

DPF has not counted all the other costs. He was supposed to fly up from Wellington at 0630 (see whaleoil) but missed his flight so had to catch another. Thats got to be $500. Whaleoil drove to the ariport but got the call late so had to go to the airport twice – thats another $300 assuming whaleoil has a fancy car. Yum Char (see whaleoil again) – they could easily wolf down $200 with wine. Theres another $1000. DPF release all expenses NOW!!!

  33. Mike Porton 33

Prophet – you were meant to ring or emailing me and you never did. I”m a bit sad about that because I reckon you and me are made for each other mate and I’ve even got you a little special something for xmas. Anyway I’m sure you were too busy with your wee problem to have turned up for real, Tom.

  34. The Prophet 34

I reckon you and me are made for each other mate

Hmmm…. My wife might disagree with you there Mike. She’s an ex kickboxing champion too. So I’d be a little careful with that kind of talk if I were you cause she will go all Trevor on your arse, and trust me it hurts.

Sigh….and yes, Ill bite……which ‘wee’ problem would that be Mike?

  35. r0b 35

Excellent coverage on TV1 I thought. I think the media are wising up to DPF, his National party links and the “Coalition’s” National Party backers clearly on display.

DPF has lost it. He’s spent so blog on his blog that he thinks behaviour that is acceptable there is funny or influential in the real world. It probably is influential too, but not in the way he intends!

More billboards please David! Or better yet, do as Helen Clark suggested, and donate the money to a Christmas charity, where it will do some real good.

  36. gobsmacked 36

One News also helpfully had (file) footage of Don Brash and Roger Kerr, who were supposed to be hiding in a cave until after the election, but have been put back in the media spotlight, not by the forces of Helengrad, but by this stupid campaign. That’s quite an own goal.

As for Prophet’s um, prophecies, the more the merrier. So CYFSwatch are going down the same track? Good.

A year of re-packaging National with car rides for kids and statesmanlike smacking compromises and DVDs … all going to be wasted as the frothing fringe surfaces in election year.

Yes, Labour are in trouble. But here comes the far right to save them. That’s Key’s nightmare, not Clark’s.

  37. Lampie 37

    At Radio NZ:
“Mr Farrar says the three billboards cost about $15,000, including one month’s rent.”³

was $18K on 1ZB including something like 6 weeks rent.

  38. Mike Porton 38

I was talking to my elderly aunt tonight (xmas phonecalls). She’s a social conservative and has voted National as many time as labour. She watched tv1 tonight ans thought Helen was pretty cool for having a laugh at herself and (interestingly) though the billboards were being put up by national. She said she’s concerned Key will be an embarrassment to the country if he becomes PM. I wonder how many others will be thinking the same.

Tom – you know what problem (oh and your wife sounds like a lovely women, does she swing?)

  39. I agree with all the knickers in a knot lefties on here. It is a bloody disgrace these billboards have been put up. Thank goodness they weren’t funded from the public purse.

  40. The Prophet 40

Time will tell Mr Smacked, time will tell.

Rob – do as Helen Clark suggested, and donate the money to a Christmas charity

Did she get that idea off Winston or is it the other way round?

Also, little heads up for you guys – Calling everyone that opposes the EFL ‘the frothing fringe’, ‘the far right’ etc etc when there appears to be quite a large cross section of NZ society that does oppose this bill may not be doing your cause much good IMO.

  41. The Prophet 41

    Tom?

Hey Mike, I really hate to suggest this as you normally accuse me of…..well, you know….some inane crap that you think is funny (like SOD?) but – Take ur pills.

I am not Tom, don’t know any Tom’s, don’t have a cat called Tom. This isn’t more of Nih’s detective work is it? He wasn’t very onto it with Robert Owen/DPF/Wiki thing (but then THAT story hasn’t been properly told yet, has it?) so maybe a grain of salt should come into play here if thats the case. If not – Take ur pills.

Does she swing? I’ve seen her knock people out with her shin kicks so the answer would have to be Yes, she does swing. She’s also reading this so I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t make any crude comments. tia.

Now – your dear old aunty aye?, ex nat voter aye?, worried about the embarrassment aye? Well mate, I hate to be so blunt with you but, really your Aunt should be worried about emarrassment’s a little closer to home than JK. Don’t ya think?

  42. Pascal's bookie 42

    Prophet

There may be “quite a large cross section of NZ society that [opposes] this bill” though we’ve no evidence of that, but wait untill they start seeing even dozens of partisan billboards accusing their family members and friends of supporting dictatorship.

Life ain’t a kiwiblog thread and NZ ain’t a big place. And it sure as fuck ain’t anything like North Korea. People notice things like that.

  43. nih 43

    nih

Wow, are you still upset at me for calling you a cocksucker?

Maybe that’s a cue to act less like one. Which you don’t seem to be doing. Stop being a prize cocksucker.

  44. nih 44

By the way, what’s with the handle? Are you trying to offend Muslims?

    Dangerous behaviour.

  45. Mike Porton 45

Well Tom, from the way you behave here I’d say your lovely wife has probably been left a little… let down in certain departments. Tell you what Tom’s wife (if you are indeed reading this) you can email me at mickyporton[]hotmail.com and we’ll look after what’s missing in your life. Leave Tom to his strip bars I say. I think people may be starting to figure out what your problem is, Tom.

  46. The Prophet 46

…..and the Homophobe rears his ugly head.

  47. nih 47

That you love to call me a homophobe as an insult clearly indicates I am not one. That’s not very efficient.

You know what would be efficient? Sod and I going to work at either end of your wife. You know, the one you keep bringing up in conversations like a shield against Teh Gay.

    Fucking christ you’re a pussy.

  48. Mike Porton 48

Tom, that’s a terrible thing to call Nih. Just because you have some issues about being the bitch in your relationship doesn’t mean you should be transferring your self-loathing onto Nih.

  49. nih 49

Oh wait, damn, there I go again. I’m being offensive. I’d hate to think there was a bit of the old KB in me.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies. I spoke in anger meant no slight against you or your wife, whom you keep mentioning in otherwise irrelevant context.

    We all ok? Buddies?

    Hug?

  50. The Prophet 50

That you love to call me a homophobe as an insult clearly indicates I am not one.

Uh ha. Right, that makes sense.

Sod and I going to work at either end of your wife

You’re very welcome to try Nih. Come on round boy.

  51. nih 51

Drop an address my good man. Now that everything’s better again we could have a great big love-in.

  52. Lampie 52

Actually, there is no mention in the posts that I have read here that points out the Prophet is gay apart from

“…and the Homophobe rears his ugly head.” As you Prophet have indicated, these guys hate gays and fear you, so in turn by calling them homophobes, you just declared yourself gay.

  53. nih 53

How’s that address coming? I mean, you offered and all. Surely you’re not going to back out now.

  54. Mike Porton 54

Y’know Tom, you keep going on about coming round or catching up but you never actually get in touch maybe your “wife” will be more forthcoming. Oh and Nih, Tom lives in Wellington so his “wife” probably does as well. What does she look like tom?

Captcha is “awkward thickness” – how does it know…?

  55. nih 55

I don’t think Prophet was being serious when he invited us over. 🙁

Maybe he’s scared something will happen. After all his bullshit and abuse I can’t imagine why.

  56. nih 56

Oh and Nih, Tom lives in Wellington

Aww, shit. Still, I’m down that way in the new year.

Still waiting on that address buddy. Let’s make this real.

  57. The Prophet 57

Sure I was Nih – Now lets find out whose the ‘pussy’

    15 Roy St, Newtown

Know where it is? Up by the Zoo.

So, you and Mike coming round tonight?

  58. r0b 58

Mike, nih, you folk are usually great. I don’t know what’s going on here tonight, but I think we’re hitting Kiwiblog lows (for the first time).

Can I suggest calling it quits for tonight?

  59. The Prophet 59

Look forward to seeing you BIG BOY.

    Just ask for Tom.

  60. burt 60

One thing is for sure, if Banks wasn’t in charge downtown now there would have been an instant inner city billboard ban… Oh, we almost had that under a left leaning mayor didn’t we… kinda cost them the election didn’t it… Keep fighting it IrishBill, your a champion for the left just like Hubbard was.

PS: It’s none of our F-ing business how much private citisens spend to publish their views unless of course you need to keep tabs so that if they cross the $120K threshold you can slap them down and say enough!

  61. Mike Porton 61

You gonna be in Welly bro? We should catch up for a beer. You’ve got my email bro let me know the dates. Maybe Tom’s wife could drop in too.

  62. nih 62

That’s fucking hilarious. You gigantic coward. You gave away the address of a reverend and marriage celebrant.

I wonder if he knows someone who thinks they’re the one true prophet of god is giving away his address for sex orgies.

  63. Mike Porton 63

Burt – it’s “you’re” the apostrophe signals the loss of the “a” in the contraction of “you are”. Anyway Burt, why do you think DPF lied to you?

  64. nih 64

    Sure thing r0b.

  65. The Prophet 65

Yeah quieten down you boys. Rob reckons you’re hitting Kiwiblog lows.

  66. nih 66

We should totally catch up Sod. I’ve got your email address, will drop you a line some time in January.

  67. r0b 67

Prophet – I didn’t try to appeal to your better nature because I didn’t see the point.

But to fellow Standardistas – thanks – let’s try and keep this place as far from the Kiwiblog gutter as possible. It’s in all of our interests in the long run.

  68. Mike Porton 68

Yeah, fair enough rOb bro. Nih. Wellington. Beer. Email me.

  69. r0b 69

Thanks Mike. If I lived in Wellington I’d email you too…

  70. Mike Porton 70

Profit – KB lows ain’t all I’ll be hitting once your wife emails me…

Sorry rOb – it was just too easy. Last one I promise.

  71. nih 71

Your question is more complicated than you think Burt.

One thing I’ve wondered is how they’ll handle politically motivated advertising initiated by someone who owns a radio station, print studio, etc.

Is there a standard figure for work done, run size, time spent, air-time donated, etc.

I think they’ll be looking more at what’s put out before they start asking you how much you spent. Anything else would encourage the respondant to lie or otherwise fiddle the numbers.

  72. The Prophet 72

Thats strange Nih – Its my house, I’ve owned it for 11 years and according to you I don’t live there. Funny huh.

    But wait……..

thats right you’re the great detective aren’t you? Just you’ve been WRONG the few times I’ve seen you try to pull it off. Well your scorecard hasn’t got any better.

    unless……..

now you’ve been called and your little shrivelled bollocks have been exposed for exactly what they are you are trying to say that I’m lying to help you save face. Nah what sort of wanker would do that?

  73. r0b 73

Thanks too nih, from further up the thread.

  74. r0b 74

    “Last one I promise.”

    Incorrigible!

  75. burt 75

    Mike Porton

Thankyou for the English lesson, it’s refreshing to get such constructive debate in the same comment as “DPF lied’. Excellent work Mr. Sod, burt will achieve one day.

I think I’ve got it sorted Mike, if IrishBill says one thing and DPF says another then DPF is telling lies. I’m getting it, don’t question it… umm – is it like a religious thing?

  76. r0b 76

Prophet, I think the game may be over for tonight. Why don’t you give it up too and get some sleep?

  77. The Prophet 77

Prophet – I didn’t try to appeal to your better nature because I didn’t see the point.

Yeah Rob, you’re right, you and your boys are definitely on a higher plane than little old me.(refer thread above)

  78. r0b 78

Say Burt – did you catch TV1 news tonight? Excellent clip on the National billboards don’t you think?

  79. Back on topic for a moment – this comment might explain WHY I made my opening comment that IrishBill thought inappropriate (fair enough, but what the heck do you think about the rest of the thread then?)

PS: It’s none of our F-ing business how much private citisens spend to publish their views unless of course you need to keep tabs so that if they cross the $120K threshold you can slap them down and say enough!

Yep Burt, keep tabs, and then seize assets and ensure the proof is forthcoming. As mentioned in further detail here: Mangled Carta

Hopefully, IrishBill, you may not see my initial comment as so off topic now?

  80. nih 80

So you’re saying you ARE the Reverend Ian Bayliss?

    http://whitepages.co.nz/Pages/Search/Results/0,2623,a1281,00.html?Name=IW Bayliss&Loc=Wellington&Reg=&Search.x=0&Search.y=0&Search=Submit

What are you doing following people around on the internet harassing them? You would be kicked out from the church for behaving the way you do.

Of course it’s not you. Occam’s razor cuts to the bone.

  81. nih 81

Aah, silly me. That says Tawa and you said Newtown.

I guess I’ll be dropping by to say hi after all.

  82. nih 82

Aww, shit. Now I feel bad. I got worried I’m going to make you paranoid and mess with your sleep or something. I’m not really going to come and get you bro. Just messin’ with ya.

I do think adopting an offensive name like “the prophet” and giving out your address is a really bad idea though. Perhaps we can have the post with his address in it removed?

  83. Razorlight 83

I am seriously confused with this whole thread.

One can argue the merits of putting up these billboards in the first place and may this well be an own goal by DPF and his coalition.

But really what is the issue with the cost of them. Even if he had said it cost $50.00 but in reality it cost $500,000.00, what does it matter.

People will read the billboards and use their own brains. Some will agree, some will disagree some will laugh. But besides the half dozen odd people on here who are faoming, who else in the real world gives a dead rats willy what it cost, what the promoters said it cost, what it actually cost or anything else to do with money.

I think some people need to get some perspective.

  84. nih 84

You weren’t a supporter of the EFB Razor. Fair enough. Like most people you probably thought it didn’t make sense – because it doesn’t from certain perspectives.

We want the supposed poster-boy for political blogging to make sense. We want consistency and truth to be in play when he represents the rest of us as a medium.

Not being able to work out how much fucking money he spent on a controversial advertising campaign related to spending doesn’t reflect well on the blogosphere.

I am in full support of people being able to get a few others together – and let’s face it, the FSC is a small group – and to make themselves heard. That’s awesome, regardless of the infantile message that was put out today.

What’s unfortunate is he’s sort of ruining it for the rest of us. I’m expecting blog-born movements to be forever tainted by the tactless, tasteless, sore loser propaganda that’s been bouncing from billboard to billboard all day.

So. What’s the problem with farrar being criticised by his peers?

  85. nih 85

Sorry. That should have read “Like most people from Kiwiblog you probably thought it didn’t make sense”.

Thank goodness you’re in the minority.

  86. The Double Standard 86

Rob “Mike, nih, you folk are usually great. I don’t know what’s going on here tonight, but I think we’re hitting Kiwiblog lows (for the first time).”

Wow Rob, you haven’t being paying much attention over the last couple of months. This sort of trash is pretty regular for Robbo and Nil.

I still think its king of sad that H1 can kind-of laugh off the billboard (what choice did she have after all) while you lads are foaming at the mouth over whether they cost 15 or 20 grand. How much did the new Party website cost eh – that was taxpayer funded to boot!

  87. Mike Porton 87

Hey DS – Why do you think DPF can’t get his numbers straight?

  88. Mike Porton 88

I think I’ve got it sorted Mike, if IrishBill says one thing and DPF says another then DPF is telling lies. I’m getting it, don’t question it. umm – is it like a religious thing?

No Burt if DPF publishes one figure and then tells the media another (and then another) then something’s amiss. I’ve got my hypothisis, I was just wondering what yours was. Oh and Burt, I seem to recall a whole lot of you righties telling Bill he was wrong about the DVD costing. But y’know – it turned out he got that right too. Basing your argument on facts, Burt. You should try it sometime.

  89. chris 89

Blubber has long been a supporter of Fiji’s Frank as a saviour of his people and then he and the waddler put up a poster comparing him and Clark.

  90. Matthew Pilott 90

Well, this made for an interesting read… WTF?

I’d like to make a point that I think is most telling (and I hope others will help make this point to the papers and so on, if they think it’s relevant).

DPF, and the “Free Speech Coalition” came out swinging about megaphones and placards and so-on. If you recall, that was the crux of their opposition to the bill.

Now, their protest is a money intensive campaign. So it becomes clear – and exactly what everyone knows their real issue is – the right of the rich to spend huge amounts in an attempt to influence voters.

It was never about democracy, never about free speech.

I suspect I’m preaching to the choir here (obviously with a few exceptions).

The free speech coalition is dead, long live the fee speech coalition!

  91. Max Call 91

Maybe the Tauranga billboard is owned by Bob Clarkson – he owns a few around here.
He also got into a bit of bother last election by using the billboard spaces for self-promotion but declaring the market cost of these spaces.

  92. Max Call 92

    whoops!!!!!!!!
that should read but NOT declaring the market cost of these spaces
    soz
